The Mumuyes reside in the Benue River Valley region of Nigeria. They are well renowned for their narrow, elongated torso wooden statues known as iagalagana. These figures are highly abstracted and invoke both human and supernatural authority.
The figures serve multiple purposes: used by diviners and healers for diagnoses and curing illnesses, as house guardians, and also reinforces mail elders’ statues in society. There is a small crack on the crown, and also on the back of the neck, due to age. Very hard and heavy wood, and is in good condition.
